Coconut Development Training Centre


To be the pioneer institute of transferring coconut based technologies to coconut growers in Sri Lanka.


To increase productivity of coconut lands by improving knowledge, skills and attitude of the coconut growers in the country. This is done through the strengthening of the extension staff of the Coconut Cultivation Board by providing proper trainings and also by conducting farmer participatory training programs in national level for disseminating coconut based technologies.


The Coconut Development Training Centre (CDTC) is located within the coconut triangle at Bandirippuwa, Lunuwila, neighbouring the Coconut Research Institute (CRI). The present objective of the CDTC is to provide comprehensive training programs to update the knowledge and skills of the personal involved in the coconut industry, including the officers of the CCB, coconut growers, processors and others interested in coconut cultivation. CDTC mainly focuses on in-house training to its technical and supportive staff to update their knowledge and skills thereby make efficient pathways to disseminate appropriate technologies to various stakeholders of the coconut industry. CDTC has been vested with authorization under the registration of Institutes and Examination (interim) Regulation, 1991 under Tertiary and Vocational Education Act No.20 of 1990.


The professional standards and expectations


The panel of qualified staff is available at the CDTC to organize and conduct training programs for different training requirements. The staffs consist of Assistant General Manager (training), Subject Matter Specialist and Subject Matter Officers. The resource person is specialized for different subjects. If there is inadequacy or lack of full capacity to cover all areas of training programs, resources persons are hired from other premises of CCB and different institutions; universities, research institutions and the private industry to meet the needs of the training modules.


Our center is equipped with the latest state of the facilities according to highest industry standards. Extending on seven acres of land, the CDTC has sufficient facilities for conduct training. The hostel can provide accommodation for 30 trainees with supply of meals. There is an air-conditioned lecture hall with seating capacity for 60 trainees and auditorium which can be accommodated 100 participants. Transport is also available with a double cab, a passenger van and a bus with 26 seating capacity which is used for training purposes.
